Digital Hub Brno: Innovation, Support, and Protection at the Digital Core of Heidelberg Materials
Modern construction relies on digitalization, innovation, and sustainability. This is well understood by the Brno-based IT Hub of Heidelberg Materials. How did a small team from Mokrá Horákov become a technological pillar of a key player in building materials production? And how did their new offices at Ponávka foster the company’s growth and innovation? Petr Vojtíšek, Lead Security Consultant, and Natália Pecková, HR Consultant at Heidelberg Materials Digital Hub Brno, share their insights.

Digital Hub Brno: Driving Global Innovation
Heidelberg Materials is not only digitalizing the construction industry but also connecting innovation, sustainability, and advanced digital services. The Brno Digital Hub plays a crucial role in this transformation.
“Our work is invisible but essential,” says Petr Vojtíšek. “Without IT, our company’s global operations wouldn’t function. We optimize processes and ensure cybersecurity.”
Natália Pecková explains what makes the Digital Hub unique: “We’re not just IT support. We are a driving force behind change. Our teams connect technology with the company’s daily operations, creating a global impact.”

A Journey of Real Growth
The move to Ponávka in 2017 was more than just relocating to new offices—it marked a new era for the Brno IT Hub of Heidelberg Materials.
“Mokrá Horákov was our starting point. We were a small team, but the space was limiting—it was quite spartan. We needed a place that matched our ambitions,” recalls Petr Vojtíšek.
However, Ponávka wasn’t a ready-made solution: “When we moved into the new offices, the space wasn’t set up yet. It was literally a blank canvas. Employees invested their own time in setting up and furnishing the new offices. We had a talented guy who managed the project and spent nights working on it,” he describes.
The relocation wasn’t just about project management—it was teamwork. “Everyone helped where they could. I remember guys sitting on the carpet, testing the network,” he adds.
The early days at Ponávka were full of improvisation. “There were no partitions, the desks were temporary, and we lacked a lot of things,” admits Petr Vojtíšek. “But the enthusiasm was huge. People enjoyed coming here because they felt this place would be different. And we knew we were building something that reflected who we are and where we’re headed.”
Today, Ponávka is the launchpad for their transformation. From an initial team of 15, the Brno Digital Hub has grown into a modern center with over 200 specialists working on global innovations.

Brno Solutions with an Impact in 50 Countries
“We are a crucial technological backbone of the company. Our tools and processes ensure the seamless operation of the building materials business—whether it’s orders, production, or logistics,” explains Petr Vojtíšek.
Currently, they are working on one of their biggest IT projects—the migration of data centers to the cloud. “We aim to reduce the number of servers we manage ourselves and transition to a cloud environment. This will bring greater flexibility, efficiency, improved data accessibility, and significantly simplified management,” he explains.
The Future of Construction Lies in Technological Innovation
Automation is increasing production efficiency and ensuring higher product quality.
Artificial Intelligence is Changing the Game
“AI is now part of our daily processes. It helps us analyze data, automate tasks, and speed up work across the company,” says Natália Pecková.
However, AI is not just about speed and efficiency. “It has enormous potential, but also risks. AI is a common tool in our data work, but validation is crucial,” adds Petr Vojtíšek.
While AI simplifies tasks, it remains just a tool—decisions and strategies are still made by people.

Offices That Reflect Their Work
A space that inspires—that’s what the offices of Heidelberg Materials Digital Hub Brno are all about.
“When designing the office, we wanted people to feel connected to the world of building materials, even while working at a computer,” explains Petr Vojtíšek. “That’s why you’ll find natural materials like wood, concrete, and metal, referencing our industry,” adds Natália Pecková.

The office design promotes both creativity and comfort. “The hexagonal desk arrangement offers open yet separate work zones. Unique elements include cement cushions and a construction wheelbarrow as seating,” they add.
Ponávka offices are more than just a workspace. Relaxation zones and a terrace are great examples of that.
“If someone needs a short break, they can use the gaming room with virtual reality, curling, and other activities. There’s even a kids’ corner, making it easier for parents to balance work and family life,” adds Natália Pecková.
