Logistics Region as a Key Hub for Efficient Goods Distribution
The Hannover logistics region is connected to the German long-distance transport network, particularly via the A7 and A2 motorways, allowing access to urban areas both north-south and east-west. As a central hub for container traffic from the North Sea ports, efficient distribution of goods throughout Germany can be achieved. Key infrastructure for this task includes the Nordhafen in Hannover and the GVZ Lehrte, both of which are high-performance multimodal facilities. However, multimodal container transport can also be realized outside of these facilities. The DUSS terminal in Hannover-Linden is primarily used by suppliers to the automotive industry, while the container terminals in Wolfsburg and Salzgitter are mainly utilized by local shippers from industry and trade. The expansion of GVZ Lehrte into a mega-hub will further enhance Hannover’s role as a distribution center. Overall, the region offers all relevant transport modes, including three inland ports, an airport, and four container terminals.
